BARBERMONGER is a site designed to help roleplayers find other roleplayers, specifically one-on-one roleplayers, as opposed to larger roleplay games. hi -- shar, 25, please help.

mxm, exclusively. unless we do hp + then i'll play a ruinous andromeda black/pansy parkinson to whomever you'd prefer.

this'll be over email or whatever you want me to download honestly.

ETC.
these are pretty much things i'm not down with!
  • anything that'll land me in jail
  • anime
  • animals
otherwise, idc. sometimes i fade to black, sometimes i don't. i appreciate your flexibility. additionally, i experiment with tenses in my writing. if that bothers you, i won't be offended.

fyi -- please miss me with that dom/sub nonsense, xo

THEMES
these are things i love to see in my role-plays. they excite me and stimulate me. unrequited love, abuse (psychological + at times physical), mystery, secret societies, mischief, questionable morals, religion, affluence, magic, intrigue, messy romances, jason statham-esque violence, action, adventure, exasperation, suspense, angst, wrong turns, obsession, liars, poisonous affection, psychological stigmas, deceit, dependency, horrible loss, retribution.

GENRES
i'll do anything modern, anything fantasy, a mixture of the two, science fiction, anything crime-based, anything and everything futuristic, twisted fairytales/fables/etc. probably will only be wary of historical settings. just too lazy to do research, honestly.

as far as fandoms (books/tv/movies/etc.) -
i am a child born of the harry potter age, so i'll love anyone willing to roleplay this - especially, as of late, with heaps of dark dystopian elements. i'm open to all other eras except founder era, and i can't be bothered with the following characters: lucius malfoy, draco malfoy, or severus snape. i adore lesser-known characters, like abercrombie, finch-fletchley, marcus flint, etc. if you play the marcus flint to my dean thomas or the teddy lupin to my lysander scamander you might as well just as for my hand in marriage. ohmygod, and anyone to my louis weasley or andromeda tonks. please. please please please please please.

PLOTS
i have a few!

actor/actor.
i like the idea of two actors quartering themselves off in an abandoned home on a bayou somewhere in louisiana, in preparation for a movie that's centered around an obsessive tenant with a penchant for voodoo that's set his sights on his other roommate, a student from an ivy league school down here to write his dissertation on french-cajun witchcraft. the two of them get really caught up in their roles, and the line between reality and film personalities blur.

they don't even have to be actors, for this one - it can be the actual tenant and ivy league student.

modern witches.
they text hexes and stir potions in university bathrooms, charm pens to take notes in class and search the deepest, innermost workings of themselves at coven keggers.

fbi agent / his charge.
specifically, the twenty-something year old son of a man implicated in a charge that stems from conspiracy to overthrow the government of whatever is constantly tracked, & when his father goes missing he takes it upon himself to figure out his disappearance. in the process he and the agent are pulled into a web of something the two of them were not prepared for, etc., etc.

knight / his ward.
a boy chosen to be prince because the current king, who has just died, was a catholic/whatever & the officials want to usher in a protestant era. the boy is of barely any relation to the king but it doesn't matter, because he's a protestant, and his parents are more than willing to offer him up. in my mind it's loosely based off of the story of jane grey - he'll be king for less than a month before a group of catholic reformers call for his execution, & he's forced to go on the run - the knight given the task to protect him coming along, even though he knows it means excommunication from his kingdom. we can throw in hints of fantasy.

old money / new money.
in today's new york city, a distinct divide still remains between the old money and nouveau riche institutions. those whose wealth has been accumulated over centuries through smooth business transactions or the cold, hard profits of infrastructure thrive, albeit archaically, in the glittering mansions of long island's gold coast. on the other side of the divide, in the seedy and electric hub of manhattan, today's newly instated wealthy click down fifth avenue in their manolos and spit on the cultured ideals of the old money. both sides despise each other, and when a boy of old money and wobbly morals catches the attention of the new money son of an illegal arms dealer, a war of money ignites in new york city.

satyr/maenad.
a satyr cop can't shake a petty drug dealer during his nighttime canvassing -- they despise one another, the cop because he can't stomach childish antics, and the dealer because he feels he's being singled-out. tensions arise and things become complicated when it's revealed to the dealer he's a maenad, and as mythology states, satyrs and maenads are obsessive pursuers of one another.

brother/brother.
taboo, but there's something layered in the pursuit of this that i want to explore. can be applied to any genre.

poisonous relationship.
a little looser than the others, but i'm keen on exploring the dynamics of a couple who've reached a point in their relationship where reality begins to set in. one of them becomes dependent, unhealthily so, and will take the other to psychological lengths he never thought possible.

we all lost something in the fire.
Man A is a manic-depressive who lost his father in a fire years ago. His anxiety and medications have caused him to fall victim to suicidal ideation - he is preoccupied with attempting to take his own life because he feels it’s the only way he can be reunited with his father. His best friend Q discovers this and promises he’ll do anything for him if he just doesn’t end it, and A asks him to love him. Q, a straight man, has now been forced into a relationship with his best friend that’s gone on for over a decade because he has a hero complex and truly believes that he is keeping A alive by acquiescing.

i'll add more as they come to me.

post here/pm if you're interested & i'll leave you my info. happy hunting.

hi -- shar, 24, looking for a few one-on-one's to reignite a drive to write. i've been toying with the idea of penning the next groundbreaking novel, but need some people to push me over the edge.

mxm, exclusively. unless we do hp + then i'll play a ruinous andromeda black to whomever you'd prefer.

    okay.

lbh dying to write again. you can call me aspen, i'm 22, and i really need this. too many roleplayers these days give of a certain "eat crap & die" aura that i can't be bothered with. i'm down with bein' chill, you know? also i've lost faith in forum role-plays but writing is like a drug & i just M I S S the old days where people could write back and forth without all of this pretense.

i exclusively partake in roleplays of the homosexual variety because i am gay and i. like. gay roleplays. err. i'm a boy and i like playing as and with boys. this'll be over email or whatever you want me to download honestly.

    ETC.
this is pretty much things i'm not down with! i won't do incest. or bestiality. or like, anything that'll land me in jail in the majority of the world. i'm gonna say no to anime because i don't watch it, and i don't even know what the hell 'furry' is - i'm just gonna say no to it too. if a certain book or television show isn't listed it means i haven't read it/don't watch it, so i'm sorry. if you're still really diggin' it and i don't have to know much about it to entertain you, i'll still be down! i'm here for you, yeah?

i smoke (i don't though). i drink. i need to stop but i caaaan't - basically, alcohol, drugs, and swearing are ace with me. i like to grasp realism in my roleplays, and unless a convent is what you call home, such things have embedded themselves into the folds of current modern society. sex is fun too. but i'm a grandpa and i fade to black most of the time. aww, i know. i'm one of those prudes. but i'm just not big on reading about someone's dick sliding into another person's asshole. i know how it works, i don't need it to be illustrated in my roleplay.

OH ALMOST FORGOT - i've noticed in many of these roleplay requests that people specify the issue of dominance and submission? it amazes me that this is even an issue, because i like to think that gay couples in real life don't sit down and discuss with each other what role they're going to play in a relationship. so. we won't touch on that, if that's okay with you.

i'll do game of thrones, charlie bone, aaaaand i've just drawn a blank to any and all television shows/ books i've read. so just shoot me one & i'll say yes or no. unless it's gilmore girls. or anything on the disney channel. or nickelodeon. or anything on abc family. hah.
