WHAT IS BARBERMONGER?

BARBERMONGER is a site designed to help roleplayers find other roleplayers, specifically one-on-one roleplayers, as opposed to larger roleplay games. Functioning like a pinboard, BARBERMONGER allows users to create advertisements, bump advertisements, and respond to other advertisements, without requiring them to register an account. However, registering an account will allow you to edit your posts, find your own topics, and use the private messaging system.

The collar will not let her forget it is on. She can breathe, but she can do little else. Were it not for accepting Leah’s hand, she might have clenched both hands into tight fists. As it was, she held Leah’s hand in one, and kept the other open, an activity that proved more distracting than clenching it into a fist might have been.

Morena takes in the décor as she fights to keep her fingers from closing tightly into a fist, and to keep from hurting Leah’s hand. It is as ornate as expected of someone like Wolfram. What she did not truly expect was all of the technology. Many of the vampires she had chosen to deal with in the past had not gotten with the times, locked into times more ancient, and trapped by their pride to remain there.

Wolfram is different altogether in that respect.

She does frown at the news on the television, though. In times before, the news hadn’t reached others until the blood from the farms had already been distributed, and vampires started showing the symptoms. ‘How were we so inept this time?’ It is bothersome, but perhaps it is their fault for picking this town. It held a man like Wolfram for a reason.

Morena releases Leah’s hand when Wolfram nods, and she does approach the desk, the chair, and she does sit. Her hands move into her laps and there the fingers entwine in an act to hold herself together, to keep from ripping the collar off. She does not speak, though, but stares at him, the question of ‘why’ obvious in her hardened countenance.

Vampires like Wolfram are changing the way that they live. Human meat was tested and audited for illness, infection, disease -- why not the blood supply? Livestock breeding was almost completely mechanized, along with the production of milk. This is not ancient times, where vampires had to cringe and crawl through the dark. This is a new era, and Wolfram Valentine believes it is time they all acted accordingly. Groups like Leah's depend on the vampires' affection for antiquity and their disorganization. If these weak links are strengthened, humanity will have no hope of retaking the Earth.

"You are dismissed, Leah, thank you." Leah bows in answer, and heads to the door -- but not without one last backwards glance at Morena. Don't be stupid. Then, she scurries off, to attend to other duties.

Wolfram turns on Morena, and crosses one ankle over his knee. "What is your name?"

The unasked question receives no answer. Turquoise eyes narrowed on the black-haired vampire, though she supposed she expected nothing else. ‘Where there’s life there’s hope.’ Morena wished she could place where the quote came from.

Of course, if she remembered it from Cato, she might doubt the words considering Cato’s choice.

Leah was dismissed, and Morena nearly looked over her shoulder. She felt the heat of Leah’s gaze, but what interested her was her expression to the gratitude expressed by the vampire. Morena, however, didn’t look back. She wouldn’t let her eyes be taken away from the threat in front of her.

The question was a simple one. She could lie to be defiant, but Morena had sense enough to understand that he’d know. He would have no way of knowing except instinct, but it would be enough. He’d lived ages longer than Morena—and he was one of those vampires who had figured out how to read humans. “My name is Morena,” she answered, words slow, the caution and tension not leaving her body. She wasn’t sure the point of this conversation, yet.

She knew his name already, so there was no point in asking.
