THE SHADE IN INGSMUD


You've heard of Ingsmud before. A distant recollection from childhood, a faded memory. The smells of fresh fish and coastline linger in the back of your mind. You know that Ingsmud is a small fishing town located in the Middens, the marshy southland that borders the saltwater, the freshwater, and a collection of swamps.

Perhaps you've even been there, once.

New information has reached you about the state of affairs in Ingsmud.
  • The fishermen, whom all the town depends on, are going missing. One by one.
  • The townsfolk themselves are acting strange.
  • Strange sounds arise from the coast in the night. The lord mayor has proposed a curfew.
  • Strange lights have been spotted in the neighbouring swamp.
  • The annual festival of Highharvesttide approaches.
Whatever is happening, it's clear that Ingsmud cannot help itself. What brings you here? A love of mysteries, or hopes of a scientific explanation? Has the ebb in fishing affected your income directly? Or have the sounds in the night travelled into your dreams from many, many miles away?

welcome to your first adventure!

first, let's grab the player's handbook. everything you need to know about creating a character and playing the game is in here. no need to read it all right now!

in order, the suggested reading is:
  1. introduction (pg. 5-7): how to play, adventures, etc.
  2. part 1 (pg. 9-170): step-by-step characters. this is an index you'll be skimming.
  3. chapter 7 (pg. 173-180): ability scores.
you should now know how to create a character and understand the basics of gameplay. follow the steps to create a 1st-level character and post it here in plain text.

important: name, ability scores, race and subrace (if any), class, alignment, background (2 personality traits, 1 ideal, 1 bond, 1 flaw), equipment.

you have 27 points to spend on your ability scores. ctrl + f 'customizing ability scores'.

if anything hasn't sunk in or you think you may have calculated wrongly, don't worry. i'll fix it, and i'll add tips and refreshers as they arise.

just have fun coming up with a character idea you'll enjoy!

reckless elf ranger from the marshlands who believes dungeon crawling is just breaking and entering (but does it anyway)
